Gentle on the shingles
Plant City Roof Soft Washing & Algae Stain Removal
Those dark streaks running down the shady side of a roof are algae, and Plant City's humid summers keep feeding them. We take them off with a low-pressure wash that leaves the shingles cleaner while sparing the grit that protects them.
Why low pressure, not a pressure washer
A pressure washer will shift the stain, but it takes granules with it — the very layer that shades the asphalt from the sun. Soft washing leans on a cleaning solution and a gentle rinse instead of force, lifting algae, moss and leaf litter while the shingle surface stays intact. On a roof that is headed for rejuvenation, it also hands the oil a clean shingle to soak into.
Dark algae trails are lifted from the shingles rather than scoured off.
Low pressure leaves the protective granules where they belong.
A clean surface lets a follow-up treatment absorb evenly.
Careful around the house and garden
Plants looked after
Shrubs, beds and lawn along the drip line are wetted and protected before we start, then rinsed again once we finish.
Gutters left clear
Moss and debris that wash down are scooped out of the gutters, not left behind to clog them.
Runoff kept in check
We steer the rinse water away from ponds, vegetable patches and anything else you point out on the walk-around.
Straight about stubborn spots
If a patch of old staining is likely to need more than one pass, you hear that before we begin, not after.
How it works
What wash day looks like
Walk-around
We note plants, windows and anything delicate, and agree where the rinse water should go.
Protect
Beds and shrubs close to the house are covered or soaked with plain water first.
Wash
We apply the cleaning solution gently, with no high pressure, let it sit and do its work, then rinse lightly.
Tidy up
Gutters cleared, plants rinsed again, and the yard handed back as we found it.
Soft washing questions
Will washing harm my shingles?
Not at low pressure. The whole point of soft washing is cleaning without stripping granules, which is exactly what high pressure does to an aging roof.
Should the roof be washed before a rejuvenation treatment?
If it is streaked or mossy, usually yes, because the treatment soaks in better on a clean surface. The assessment will tell you whether yours needs it.
Can you clean a tile roof too?
Yes, tile is cleaned as part of our tile roof cleaning and sealing, which finishes with a clear seal.
Tired of looking at the streaks?
Call and we will look at the staining, tell you what a soft wash will lift, and price it before anyone climbs onto the roof.
